Is Rio de Janeiro a dangerous city?

Rio de Janeiro is a city with a high criminality rate, but mostly this cirminality is in the favelas, the ghettos of Rio, which the tourist should avoid. There are some rules which must be respected as in any other big city in the world. If the turist respect the following rules, nothing should happen:

Security Rules:

- Avoid walking around with jewels, gold or expensive watches

- Don't leave your things alone ON the beach

- Avoid exposition OF objets LIKE digital cameras

- Avoid showing big money amounts AT PUBLIC places - Avoid going TO the favelas

- Avoid the beach AT nighttime

- NO defense IN CASE OF assault
