Christ statue, Corcovado

The Christ statue is located at the Corcovado mountain which bears at 704 m above sea level. It is the town symbol of Rio the Janeiro: the well known, 1000 tons weighting Christ the Redeemer seen from every corner of the metropolis. Clear sight allows especially in the evenings a spectacular view on the Southern town districts of Leblon, Ipanema, Copacabana and on Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas close to the Botanical Garden. Sugarloaf, Botafogo Bay, Niteroi Bridge, Rio downtown and the Maracana Soccer Stadium are other sites of interest.

Most tourists take the cable car departing from Cosme Velho 513 to Corcovado. It runs from 8:30 am to 6:30 pm.

A taxi from copacabana or ipanema costs you about R$ 20,00 to come to the cable car station.
